Roleplaying in the Fallen Cycle
There will be much, much more on this topic as time passes. But for the time being, I’d like to be the first to announce that we’ll be developing an official system for others who want to #mythpunk!
It seems only fitting and symmetrical, as the truth is that Fallen Cycle setting itself came first out of decades of RPGs which blended myth and “real life.” The first couple iterations were run on a core of heavily modified 2nd edition D&D rules, then 3.5, then we ran years of heavily modified WoD rules. Now we’ve been looking at Monty Cook’s Cypher Systems and Chronicle of Darkness, and I’ve been running a cyber/myth punk campaign using CoD for a couple months now.
Part of the initial challenge will be to develop an approach that encompasses what worked best. I realized there’s been a movement in #ttrpg towards games that more closely resemble board or card games. Which is cool, but doesn’t capture the Fallen Cycle. However, you can expect to find a considerable amount from the myth and occult systems that were integral in the fiction writing process integrated into the core rules. For instance, we’ve been mulling over how to incorporate the Tarot in the Mythos Media Slack channel.
What else will you be able to expect? You’ll have to wait a little bit. But I’m incredibly excited to be doing this, and I hope many of you join me.
